September 17, 2024 – AA World Services is now accepting reservations for the 2025 International Convention in Vancouver British Columbia July 3-6th 2025. Your Seniors in Sobriety Steering Team is committed to have a presence at the Convention and is in the process of forming a hospitality planning committee. Volunteers will take on various tasks at the conference that will improve our visibility among conference attendees from around the world. Our goal is to extend our outreach for SIS meeting group formation, potential future SIS Conference venues, and additional senior services awareness among AA Areas, Districts, and Committees. If you are interested in being involved in service planning and/or while attending the conference, please email: chair@seniorsinsobriety.com.
July 16, 2024 – Without fanfare SIS International Zoom meeting celebrated its 2-year birthday, or its 105th consecutive Sunday Zoom meeting. All members of the SIS Steering team who have become regular attenders continue to attend and support the meetings with the addition of some new “regulars” and drop-ins each week. We have experienced some “Meeting bombing” which is annoying, but unavoidable (so far) as we are now listed in the online meeting guide https://aa-intergroup.org as Seniors In Sobriety.

May 23, 2022 – Your SIS Steering team has been meeting monthly since our 2021 International Conference in San Diego concluded. We elected a new Chair, Lisa C. from Reno and appointed a number of committee members all of whom are committed to furthering the SIS mission throughout the Pacific Region as well as nationally and internationally. Our current projects include fund-raising to make-up for the Covid induced losses incurred by the 2021 San Diego Conference and adding needed seed-funds for a 2023 or 2024 conference. As well we are planning the launch of an “Official” International weekly Zoom meeting to continue to spread the SIS message to seniors everywhere. We continue to add article submissions to our web page and encourage all interested to submit relevant information for consideration.
November 1, 2021- The 2021 Seniors in Sobriety International Conference concluded on Wednesday October 24th. The conference was provided as a “hybrid” event with 75 seniors attending in-person at the Bahia Resort in San Diego, California and 44 attending selected Zoom events throughout the weekend. The influence of the Covid pandemic was obvious with many attendees wearing masks, and many having informed the conference committee in advance of their reluctance to travel and/or attend the event in person due to health and safety concerns. Conference evaluations provided those in attendance praised the conference committee and the excellent choice of speakers and topics. The committee and SIS Steering Team members met immediately following the conference to share feedback and establish future planning for conferences. Please visit our website for news about upcoming 2022 events and potential future conferences. Obviously, health and safety concerns will continue to affect the planning of in-person events for now.

February 2021 – Our Seniors in Sobriety 13th International Conference Committee is formed to plan the program and reservation details for a HYBRID conference this year. In 2019, following the successful SIS Conference in Reno Nevada, the SIS Steering Team had decided to plan bi-annual conferences going forward due to the conflict of the upcoming AA World Services International Conference planned for Detroit in July 2020. Obviously the Covid-19 Pandemic crisis affected all conference planning for AA events including local meetings, area events, Roundups and other face-to-face AA events. So we chose to initiate the early planning for a Fall 2021 Conference, invested SIS funds to secure required venue deposits, and sought volunteers for the planning committee. As our faith and perseverance again demonstrated, a willing group of former and new volunteers came together and initiated weekly Zoom meetings to plan the conference.
April 2020 – The Covid19 crisis has radically changed SIS and other recovery meetings and activities for millions of people around the world. The International AA Convention scheduled for Detroit MI in July has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. SIS has suspended its plans to provide a hospitality suite. However, the 2021 Seniors in Sobriety International Conference planning committee continues to prepare for our October 2021 event in San Diego. Refer to this site for information regarding details as they are finalized and as any travel and reservation requirements solidify.
