The alcohol problems among older people are often mistaken for other conditions associated with the aging process.
In this population, alcohol abuse and alcoholism may go undiagnosed and untreated or be inappropriately treated.
All around us are many elders that alcohol has robbed of hope, dignity, and the ability to cope.
We hope to carry the message of recovery, to seniors everywhere.
I’m the Chair person for H & I, Intergroup of Martin County Fl.
A couple of calls have been forwarded to me, because no other committee is set up to handle the call.
Two senior living facilities have requested AA meetings and I’m looking for guidance in providing these meetings. So here I am. Help, please
Hi Ron:
Apologies for taking so long to answer your inquiry.
We don’t have resources to assist with your request. However, some Areas for CEC (Cooperation with Elders Committees) that prepare flyers and attract volunteers to take meetings into senior centers. Obviously, these are sober seniors themselves, whose lived experience helps them relate to the seniors in centers, some of whom become alcoholics late in life. You also might reach out to the General Service office in new york since they have a desk that also can provide resources like flyers, etc.
Hope this helps.
In the spirit of service,
colin
